Welcome to my Priority One Blog Series. Saturday was one of those days that went completely in the opposite direction of even one hint of the plans I had for the day. And trust me, I had some plans...a full lineup!
I had planned to take photos and preview at least five of my seven BPO assignments today. And I have a bank owned property that needed a check to see if the property management company had fixed the jammed lock. I have a list of people that want to see it, and have called for appointments, and no one can get in! And I needed to spend at least an hour catching up on some office bookkeeping. And then there are those autumn leaves!!! I have way too many of them! I had really planned to spend a good chunk of the afternoon raking piles so I could enlist help bagging leaves one afternoon this week.
Well sometimes God steps in to your best made plans and rearranges your priorities. And that is surely what happened to me today! Prov. 19:21 says, Many are the plans in a person's heart, but it is the LORD's purpose that prevails. Regardless of MY plans, God had something else in store for me today.
It was a long day. My husband was taken into the hospital at 7AM following a seizure. I was with him for hours in the Emergency Department, and then the ICU until visiting hours were over. And during that entire time, my husband slept. And I had time to sit and rest and read and reflect and pray.
Now I must say, NOT ONE of MY plans were accomplished today. But God is sovereign. He rules over all. And I do not yet know why my husband must struggle with this seizure disorder. (He is okay!) But I do know that everything that God allows is ultimately to shape us into the children that He wants us to be. Note that I said "us". This difficulty God has allowed in our lives is specifically designed by God to accomplish His purposes in both of us--and my daughter too!
And as I quietly sat and reflected today, several thoughts about MY PLANS came to mind. Interestingly enough, as I was making my list on Friday, I had this nagging thought that none of it was really going to get done. I believe God was speaking to my spirit to help me to be prepared for the "upset" in my plans. I realize that my plans are meaningless in His sight, unless they are first in keeping with God's plans for me.
Proverbs 27:1 Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring.
Matthew 6:34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
James 4:13-17 You do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. (Click on hyperlink for the entire passage.)
So as we start a new week, it is just natural that we will take time some time to "plan" our days and our week. But remember to"roll your works upon the Lord [commit and trust them wholly to Him; He will cause your thoughts to become agreeable to His will, and] so shall your plans be established and succeed." (Proverbs 16:3 AMP)
So today I pray with you that as you make your "Best Laid Plans", that you will listen to God and see what He has for you in the coming days. And I pray that He will cause your plans, in alignment with his purposes, to succeed. May He grant you according to your heart's desire and fulfill all your plans. Psalm 20
If you have a few extra minutes today, here are two accounts of the difference "tomorrow" can bring. No matter what today looks like tomorrow can look completely different when God steps in with HIS plans! Remember, His mercies are new every morning! 2 Kings, chapter 7 and 2 Chronicles, chapter 20.
